5 Important Practices of Conservation Agriculture

Practices of Conservation Agriculture

Agriculture involves the production, processing, marketing and distribution of crops, in addition to providing food and raw materials, it also generates many job opportunities for a significant number of the population.

Due to its key rol in the development of a society it is very important to make sure we use good practices for its conservation. Here are 5 important practices to conservation agriculture:

  1. Tree production in nurseries

The production of trees in nurseries is the most important part in the period of growth and development, trees are planted inside a nursery, in order to prevent and control external factors that can damage seedlings in their stage of greatest vulnerability, to then  later be transplanted into orchards to continue its growth process.

It is a process that can last from 12 to 18 months depending on the species. During this time, the nursery areas must be conditioned and the substrates prepared for filling the container where it will be sown.

  1. Drip irrigation system.

It’s the most efficient method for supplying water to crops, helping them to directly provide the correct amount of water and fertilizer so that plants receive exactly what they need at the most opportune moment.

Thanks to this drip irrigation method, a higher yield of fertilizers and energy is obtained at the same time that responsible and conscious use of water is practiced and ensured in the orchards.

  1. Distribution and planting of trees

When distributing tree crops it is important to do so strategically to ensure that regions receive the necessary support for their local farmers throughout their communities.

An example of this is Citrofrut, which positions itself as a company that is concerned with preserving and maintaining good practices that promote the correct distribution of citrus crops, developing regions with support for citrus communities to encourage this practice.

  1. Farmer Training Programs

It is important that global agricultural companies have education programs for their employees in which they train and inform good practices in agriculture.

In this point Citrofrut, through its Agricultural School, which is part of the Citrofrut University, takes the initiative and makes available to its collaborators some programs such as «Planting Knowledge» which introduces the best agricultural practices at the same time that promote those that are more sustainable.

  1. Training program for producers in the region

Creating programs for producers from different regions is also an excellent way to encourage farmers who have private gardens to carry out practices that ensure the quality of their crops and products, not only to generate  better business relationships, but also to secure their economic wellbeing.

«Faithful Producers» is a company program in which the Citrofrut University trains its personnel in different activities for cultivation, such as the use of tractors, machinery, irrigation systems, among others, all this to train producers in the region teaching them the best practices of Citrofrut.

This is an initiative that benefits the job opportunities of these farmers while generating more sustainable practices in the area.

Citrofrut works every day to improve its agricultural practices and at the same time helps communities grow and improve their crops by providing the necessary information and training for both its employees and external farmers, thus providing high-quality products as a result of a more environmentally friendly and sustainable process.
